As an ORISE Fellow, Kate will engage with Tribal Nations of the Northeast Region in climate adaptation and mitigation research.
As a writer, sociologist, and educator, Kate explores the interconnections among people, places, and livelihoods in a changing climate. Her graduate work documented lived experiences of climate change among farmers, fishers and foresters in Maine. Her writing on climate change and land- and sea-based livelihoods has appeared in The Guardian, Smithsonian, DownEast, Earth Island Journal, National Wildlife Magazine, and Civil Eats, among other places. In addition to writing and conducting research, Kate is a Visiting Lecturer in Environmental Studies at Bowdoin College and Bates College.
