R.H. (Howard) Skinner, former Plant Physiologist with the USDA-ARS, Pasture Systems and Watershed Management Research Unit, University Park, Pennsylvania, has been recognized as the first Northeast Climate Hub Distinguished Scholar.
Dr. Skinner recently retired from his research duties and serving as the Deputy Director of the USDA Northeast Climate Hub. His innovative research used micrometeorological and other approaches to examine the carbon dynamics of pastures in the northeastern U.S., and how pasture processes are affected by management and the environment. Howard served a leading role in the USDA Northeast Climate Hub. As a founding lead, he was key in developing the original successful proposal for the Northeast. Howard’s experience and leadership skills were highly valued during his time with the Hub. In December 2016, Howard turned to the next chapter in his life. Starting in April, he is planning an extended stay in the Republic of the Congo. There, he and his wife will contribute their considerable skills toward helping with water resources and community development.
The USDA Northeast Climate Hub greatly benefited from Howard’s contributions. His position as Distinguished Scholar both recognizes past contributions and continues his involvement in future activities. We look forward to working with Dr. Skinner in his new role with the Northeast Climate Hub.
