Continuity and Commitment: USDA Northeast Climate Hub Announces New Director

While her title may be new, Erin Lane has been working with the USDA Northeast Climate Hub since 2014.

Serving first as Coordinator and more recently as Deputy Director, Erin has helped build the partnerships and staff essential to the Hub’s mission. Working alongside previous regional Directors, Dr. David Hollinger and Dr. Lindsey Rustad, Erin credits their leadership and mentorship as invaluable.

Erin’s USDA career began in 1997 as a firefighter, and then as a fire ecologist after graduate school. Her passion for addressing climate challenges eventually led her to the Climate Hubs a decade ago. She now combines leadership for the Northeast Hub with primary research on soil carbon and contributions to large-scale regional synthesis research as a chapter author of the National Climate Assessments.

As she steps up to Director, Erin is committed to the relationships and deep connections the Northeast Hub has fostered over the years. The USDA Climate Hubs are resilient, and their partners have been vital to achieving a shared mission of using a science-based approach to empower the nation’s farmers, foresters and land managers to respond proactively to the changing climate. Together with its partners, the USDA Northeast Climate Hub will continue to innovate, collaborate, and lead the way towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
