Katie Nigro

Katie joined the USDA Northern Plains Climate Hub in the spring of 2024 as an ORISE Fellow with the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station in Fort Collins, CO. She is interested in how climate change and disturbance events (e.g., fire, insect outbreaks, drought) interact to alter forest composition, structure, and function. Katie is also interested in exploring ecosystem management strategies that will help forests become better adapted to future climate. She is committed to promoting equity and justice in natural resource management and is interested in contributing to improved collaborations between rightsholders and stakeholders in forest management to sustain and enhance the multitude of ways that communities connect to forests. Katie is also excited about translating science into tangible management outcomes through applied research and communication to various audiences.
