Silmarie has a degree in Agronomy from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. As part of the Youth Climate Leaders 2019 Immersion Program, she co-created a project proposing the implementation of a gamified farming curriculum for primary schools. She is a certified agronomist and has taught various courses related to sustainable farming in the public school system. Silmarie has also worked with family farming and farm to table projects in Puerto Rico. As part of the USDA Caribbean Climate Hub, she co-developed an Adaptation Guide for Tropical Agriculture and Forestry in the Caribbean. She also collaborates with the impact's reports and Spanish translation of the Bimonthly Drought Updates for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and with sharing citizen science data collection tools like CocoRaHS and CMOR to farmers and landowners. She is currently working as a mitigation specialist for the Caribbean Hub.
