Approach
Increase competitive ability and resilience of whitebark pine to changing disturbance regimes.
Tactics
- Control beetles.
- Daylight (thin) to reduce competition (usually involves removing subalpine fir).
- Regenerate and plant rust-resistant whitebark pine strains; increase seed sources; maintain cache sites.
- Plant whitebark pine at lower elevations.
- Create fuelbreaks.
